If you are a blogger or webmaster, you would undoubtedly have tried all kinds of methods to generate traffic to your website. The source of traffic has grown over the years but so have the number of websites on the Internet right now. The premier blog search engine service, Technorati has even estimated that a few thousands blogs are established every single day.
With other distractions like Facebook and Twitter, users’ attention span has been stretched to the limit. Some web users could no longer rely on conventional methods of bookmarking and following a few websites to satisfy all their needs. Hence they make use of other users’ recommendations, especially people and experts with similar interests to them – Twitter and social bookmarking sites are essentially conversation and link exchange services.
The traffic from social conversation services are useful because it allows your content to reach your intended audience quickly and it might even go viral if more and more people spread it due to its usefulness. Sure, your content might eventually reach enough people even if it is not shared on social bookmarking websites but you may have to wait weeks or even months if you just rely on search engine traffic.
So you could ignore the power of social bookmarking at your own peril. It could no doubt make or break your website’s fortune. As mentioned due to increasing number of websites on the Internet today, however, manual social bookmarking is a thing of the past. At best, you could get some attention to your links and some occasional traffic flowing into your website. Unless you have the time to cultivate a major following on your Twitter or social bookmarking profiles, you need something more powerful.
An automated social bookmarking campaign combined with other rational and adequate promotion methods is the way to go. It is something you should have as a minimum to be able to compete on the Internet today. There are 2 main methods to automate your social bookmarking campaign, first method is by outsourcing the work and the second method is by using software.
Softwares such as Bookmarking Demon and BookmarkWiz are very helpful tool indeed. They help you to submit your content to multiple social bookmarking sites and activating your social bookmarking profiles all in a few seconds or minutes’ time. If you ever need to have multiple profiles on a single social bookmarking site, these softwares are built in with proxy support to prevent detection from the administrators of those sites. More advanced users will also be happy to know that they can save time by letting the software enter the CAPTCHA human-verification technology code for them.
Usually those softwares come at a hefty price, Bookmarking Demon is usually sold at $147 and BookmarkWiz at $97. Their competitors are also similarly priced. However, we managed to locate a Christmas promotion for BookmarkWiz where it is being sold at $17 only, available for 48 hours from 25th December 2010 Netherlands time.

Use the coupon code CHRISTMAS in the text field as indicated on the screenshot above to take advantage of the this promotion.
May you use the software wisely to help your website gain the attention and rank that it deserves

Movable Type is a rather famous blogging application apart from WordPress. Heck, the bloggers who were there during the advent of blogging craze and Web 2.0 revolution would even remind me that Movable Type was THE blogging platform of choice then. Unfortunately something happened and fortunately for WordPress, it took in a majority of bloggers who gave up on Movable Type and since then it has grown from strength to strength, both in reputation and actual functionality.
No doubt, the brief and incomplete account above could never do justice to Six Apart (the company that originally developed Movable Type) and what actually transpired in those years. For a more complete picture, please read the article below by Nik Black:
How did Six Apart screw up?
Back to my question: Should I try out Movable Type or should I stay clear of it?
Is there value in doing so? Is it worth it? Will Movable Type be abondoned in the near future?
I believe these are all pertinent questions for bloggers using or are planning to use Movable Type as their blogging platform. I wanted to try it for myself after using WordPress for about 2 years now, for no particularly good reason. I just want to have a look at a decent alternative. Nevertheless, my motivation is seriously damped by the recent merger of Six Apart with VideoEgg forming SAY Media and after reading the article above.
My concerns for MT are mainly due to its generation of static HTML pages and the need for regeneration of many related pages whenever we apply an update to certain pages.
Of course, I understand that MT also does not have a great variety of themes and plugins to choose from, unlike WordPress. Last I heard, users need to manually update the core files of the application. Can you imagine doing without WordPress auto update features now? This could be a blessing though, I personally think MT might be more suitable for a blogger who does not tweak too much or use too much fancy graphics, being more of a plug-and-blog application. With less options and extensibility, the complexity faced by users is greatly reduced.
This simplicity is something that I fear, though. With nothing to worry about except producing great content, I might just fall in love with Movable Type…
So what do you say? Should I try out Movable Type or should I stay clear of it? Why?
We understand the predicaments faced by new bloggers. Almost invariably, lack of funds for domain name and webhosting is one of them. This forced new bloggers to begin their humble blogging experience (or experiment) onĀ free blogging service such as WordPress.com and Blogger.com.
We know the situation very well because we too had first started blogging on a free blogging service (blogger.com) and only later on we managed to try our hands on self-hosted WordPress. Although I am still using those services, there is little doubt now that if I plan to set up a new blog, self-hosted WordPress would be my number one choice (unless I have much more specific needs not provided for by the said software).
Anyway, this is not one of those articles to sing the praises of self-hosted WordPress versus the free blogging services. I believe there are many articles of such nature already in the blogosphere.
Instead, I would like to know if you take up the chance if you were offered a totally free self-hosted WordPress account complete with your own domain name for 1 year, that is webhosting plus domain name, FREE!
If you are interested, head on over to the giveaway post at WPWebHost’s Blog or click the banner image below.

This giveaway ends on 30th September 2010. Do read the terms and conditions carefully. If you need a comment on your blog post to have a chance to win the prize, do not hesitate to ask for help by commenting on this post. Don’t forget to thank WPWebHost profusely too!
Besides, now that you will have your own self-hosted WordPress and domain name, hope you don’t mind sharing your thoughts about the questions below.
How do you think a self-hosted WordPress and domain name will benefit you? What do you think you can achieve with them now? How do you plan to promote your new blog? Lastly, do you enjoy blogging on self-hosted WordPress? Why?
That’s right. Instead of paying the usual price of $11.44 for a dot com top-level domain (TLD), allow WMBUZZ.COM to inform you how to register not one, but 3 TLD for the price of $0.99 cents each (subject to promotion availability, price quoted does include the 18 cents ICANN fee).
First offer is available to all GoDaddy customers, the special offer is limited to one order per customer and will expire after 10,000 redemptions or October 5, 2010 (whichever comes first). So just register for a new GoDaddy account or login into your existing account to take advantage of this special offer. Do make a wise choice on your preferred TLD, normally .COM is the most popular TLD among website owners.

Apart from this special offer, we also manage to locate two other coupon codes (of which their validity have been personally verified by me) which will enable you to register new .COM, .NET (and other TLDs) at the special price of $1.17 (inclusive of ICANN fee).
The coupon codes are:
godaddy99
This coupon code supposedly will expire after 10,000 redemptions or on September 13, 2010 (whichever comes first)
FALL99
No further information regarding when FALL99 coupon code will expire but to be on the safe side, do use it quickly if you want to save up a little on registration fee.
Lastly, I believe all registrations need to be paid with credit card (or debit card, I’d used to pay for my domains). Enjoy, I hope this information is helpful to you.
Thank you GoDaddy too! Who’s your Daddy?
VeriSign, the company responsible for handling the domain name registration of .com and .net generic top-level domains (TLD) has announced that as of July 1, 2010 the registry fee for .com domain names will increase from $6.86 to $7.34 and that the registry fee for .net domain names will increase, from $4.23 to $4.65.
The price increase will also be reflected in the fees charged by a majority of domain name registrars. The increment may not be significant but your bottom line might still be affected if you or your company are holding a large portfolio of .com and .net domain names.
Is there anything I can do about it?
To be precise, none. However, you still have about 48 hours to take advantage of the current domain name fees. If you register new domains before July 1, 2010 or renew the domains that you wish to hold onto, you can save some money. Better still, renew the registration a few years ahead for domain names that are valuable to you.
We hope this announcement save you some money. Bring you more news real soon.
